In his best television role, Robert
Urich played the Spenser - the P.I. with a heart of gold. He
solves cases with the help of his friend Hawk, brilliantly portrayed
by Avery Brooks and his loving, supportive girlfriend, Susan
Silverman. When Spenser was canceled, ABC produced four
made-for-tv movies and the powers-that-be have decided they would
release these movies first. Robert Urich and Avery Brooks are
still perfect in their roles but the Barbara Stock was replaced with
two other actresses, which was probably one of the dumbest decisions
ever. The chemistry enjoyed by Urich and Stock was gone and it
was such a major part of Spenser (the man) that much of the magic of
the series was lost. But, the series still had Urich and
Brooks and that's enough to still enjoy the movies. Let's hope
the studio gives Spenser for Hire the respect it deserves and
release all episodes. We can only keep our fingers crossed. |
